Unworshipped Goddess

In youthful years
She was a goddess in her mind
And her mind was her world.
She reveled in life's miracles
And felt divine.

As she grew
She became more cynical.
She no longer found herself divine.
She no longer saw herself as miraculous.
She was flawed.
Her image of the Goddess changed.
And the goddess she aspired to become
Punished her
and punished her.

And the more she punished herself.
The less she believed in herself.
Until the goddess within
Ceased to exist
And left behind
A hollow
empty
world
devoid
of
miracles
and possibilities.
